Dr. David Viscott - Changing an Ingrained Behavior Pattern

In this video clip, celebrity talk show host Dr. David Viscott talks to Mary, who acts out role play dramas in private. She's been doing it most of her life, and she doesn't know how to quit.

In just a few minutes, Dr. Viscott correctly explains why she does it and offers her an empowering solution.



This is a fascinating interchange between a skilled psychologist at the top of his game and a person in need. It's also a illustration of how behavior patterns can become ingrained over time, and how hard it is to let go of a habit like that.

Dr. Viscott is right. These patterns are "hard wired." The only way out is to ingrain new ones, which will take consistent repetition over the long haul. His suggestions are positive and appropriate to her life. If she does what he says, I get the feeling it will work for her.
