On Building Relationships - From the Great Zig Ziglar

You may remember that world-famous author and speaker, Zig Ziglar, passed away at the age of 86 in 2012. One of his biggest fans, I still enjoy searching for more of his videos and quotes. Recently I found this on YouTube, an interview when he was an amazingly spry and alert eighty-year-old.

My favorite segment comes early in the clip, when he has this to say about the ability to communicate and build relationships:

"Nearly 100% of all counseling is directly or indirectly related to relationships. Husband-wife, parent-child, teacher-student, employer-employee, neighbor-neighbor, sibling-sibling. So if we can handle our relationship problems effectively, that leaves us free to concentrate on the other parts of our life."

He also cited this finding from several studies:

"People skills are more important to your career than any other single thing. Eighty-five percent of the reason you get a job and keep it is because of your people skills."
